Coming from Tailwind

For the largest group of visitors: what changes, what does not.

The mental shift

Tailwind puts the design system in your class attributes; KATA puts it in tokens and part CSS. You will write longer stylesheets and shorter markup. A card stops being eleven utilities and becomes .k-card — which means the design can be retuned in one place, and the HTML reads as structure instead of as styling.

They coexist fine: Tailwind for layout glue in a page, KATA parts for the components. The tokens are plain CSS variables, so a Tailwind config can point at the same values and the two systems stop arguing.

Rough translations

A few mappings to start: bg-zinc-900 text-white becomes a part on a dark section (data-theme="dark" does the whole subtree). rounded-xl is --k-radius-lg. The accent button is .btn-pri or .btn-teal, not a recipe of bg-, hover: and focus: classes — hover and focus are in the part, tested once, everywhere. Arbitrary values like w-[340px] stay inline styles in KATA too; the mold is strict about color, relaxed about one-off geometry.

What you give up: the utility for the one weird case, answered inline. What you get back: a page whose markup a new hire (or a model) can read at a glance, and parts that look related because they are.
